R- The Promise of Kierna' Rhoan (v,x)
Sorry, no data yet.
The Promise of Kierna'Rhoan is a Sci-Fi romance set on a planet where human beings are the aggressive aliens destroying an indigenous culture. But though the shapeshifters who lived there originally do not kill, they adapt much more quickly than humanity can. Kira is trying to save some of them by taking them to a planet that is not on any charts. Before she leaves, however, she becomes romantically entangled with a military man who works for her tyrranical ex-husband, which creates all sorts of conflicts and confusion. The point of this entire story is the romance, not really the sci-fi, but as a short romance, it's not too bad. There are some things that are not quite believable, but the description of the shape-changers and some of the settings are quite nice. This story might have benefited from being a different length, either longer on the situation leading up to the crisis, or condensing the crisis itself. Nonetheless, fans of McCaffrey's older romances may find an appealing echo here.
